The DykeDiva Surf the web, and you just might discover DykeDiva.com. It's a self-proclaimed "lesbian site with bite" - run by the Dyke Diva. She's an in-your-face grrl with TONS of attitude. Write in for some advice, send a poem, and the diva will always email you back in her fresh, faced style. In fact, she prides herself on responding to each, and every person who sends something in.
Dykediva.com was started two years ago by Ronit (aka Dyke Diva), a 31 year old queer filmmaker and guerrilla media activist. Says the diva - "I'm certainly PISSED at the state of the world. Making films, or creating web sites for that matter, allows me to reach large audiences and sneak in my politics. I mean, unfortunately, most people will rather see a movie, or surf the web, than read a book. So I educate while entertaining." Ronit has been making social documentaries for ten years. Her latest video, "Voices of Cabrini: Remaking Chicago's Public Housing " (1999), looks at the demolition of Cabrini Green - Chicago's most well-known low-income housing development." Ronit has also worked for the National Film Board of Canada, where she made the delightful "When Shirley Met Florence" (1994), featuring two Jewish women who have been friends for over 55 years. (Florence is a dyke, Shirley is straight.).
