Teaching the Technophobe

I'm not sure how it happened. When I first met my partner, we didn't distinguish between ourselves in the technology realm just yet. Then I found the web. I went from a mini Geekdyke to Supreme Geekdyke in milliseconds. My partner went the exact opposite way. I now lovingly refer to her as Technophobe. Come on, you all know that one person who's afraid to program the VCR. Hell, I had to get rid of the digital alarm clock because of how daunting it was. I'm not even going to talk about the new coffee maker that you can program.

The fun part was a while back when advertisers realized what a goldmine of untapped wealth lay out there on the internet and everyone and their mother got a web site. Technophobe decided she wanted to jump on this bandwagon and see what all the hubbub was about. So I proceeded to sit her down in front of my old Mac (which was used for web graphics! I know how people think you can't be a Technoweenie if you use a Mac. I say PEESHAWW!!! What do they know?) and show her how to use it. I got so frustrated that she didn't get the difference between "click and double-click". At one point, I ripped the mouse out of her hand to show her. This is when it hit me. In order to teach a technophobe, one has to become a newbie all over again.
