What Makes a Family

"What Makes a Family" is definitely not a movie you want to watch if you're currently suffering from an onslaught of "abandonment issues". This past Monday evening was spent snuffling into many a tissue while clinging desperately to my girlfriend, whispering "Don't you EVER get sick or I swear to god... I will SO KICK YOUR ASS!" and other sweet nothings in her ear. The movie opens with an extremely flustered Janine Nielsen (Brooke Shields) pestering an extremely uninterested attorney (Whoopi Goldberg) to represent her in her court case to regain custody of her daughter. After a semi-cliché "I said no, damnit... but since you're so strong, determined and feisty, how could I possibly turn you down, but please, ferchrissakes... wear something pink and frilly" type argument, the two set an appointment date to discuss the details.
