"Heather" Has an Anniversary - By Porchgal Meanwhile, the controversy over "Heather" continues. The ACLU-TX responded to the 1999 removal of the book from the children’s section of the Wichita Falls public library with a lawsuit, claiming that the resolution which dictates that a book must be removed from the children's section of the library to an adult area upon receiving a petition signed by 300 Wichita Falls residents who object to the content of the book, is unconstitutional.
And so, no, I am not going to review "Heather Has Two Mommies". I’m just going to send you out to your local booksellers, your schools and your libraries and ask you to make sure that they have it on the shelf. "Heather Has Two Mommies, the 10th Anniversary Issue" by Leslea Newman and with illustrations by Diana Souza, has been just been re-issued by Alyson Wonderland Press, a division of Alyson Press, 2000.
