Road Kings

Next came Antonio Caputo in a crisp white suit with slicked back hair and a thin, black moustache slinking across the stage singing "Just a Gigolo" with a cute German accent. The girls went wild (and some of the boys, too!). Mo related a few stories about girls flashing Antonio their panties (or lack thereof) from the front rows of past shows, and that didn't seem like much of a surprise after seeing him ooze his charm in the spotlight.

And then, the aussie hip hop star, Muthafucka MC in full ghetto garb complete with shades and gold chains (the transformation from real life to king is absolutely astounding) busting out with the beatboxing and a heartfelt rap to his girlfriend, Donna, with a sincere apology for his slip-up with Brittney Spears. (She didn't mean anything... really.) Muthafucka MC rapped with the best of them, and actually has a very powerful singing voice that slipped through a few times.

I won't go through the rest of the show act by act, but here are the highlights: A painful magic show, nipple piercings, a whip and leather, more beatboxing than you can shake a gold chain at, old-time drag, lots of jiggling butt cheeks and an actually quite moving and dramatic end piece by Mo B. Dick him/herself.

After the show (a standing ovation) Mo and the gang headed to their second late-night show and my girlfriend and I headed home. The gang showed up at our house after we'd already gone to sleep, and I tell you, tip-toeing through a living room full of drag kings on your way to work in the morning is an unusual experience. When I came home that afternoon, they were still there preparing for their next gig and I got a chance to see some of the most interesting laundry I'd ever seen and sit down and talk with them for a bit.

Miss Hamhock (Lora Marie) was a true sweetheart, offering my girlfriend and I a tour guide and a place to stay next time we hit New York. Mo and Antonio sat together pouring over pages of notes from their past and future shows and were visibly excited about how many shows they were doing and how well their tour had gone so far. I hit Mo up for an article, Diary of a Road King, and we'll see if that pans out. Should be interesting if it does! Muthafucka MC was kind and sincere, just like her smile and I was sad to see them all leave so quickly.

I can't wait to get to New York and see them in their element, and you should definitely hit their show if they come through your town. The tour dates are on their website. Go. See the show.
