REVOLUTIONARY VOICES: edited by Amy Sonnie
(Alyson)
review by Nicole Blizzard
The isolation and alienation that these young poets, writers and artists have gone through is etched in their contributions to this anthology. They do not want to be silent any longer. Many of them feel that the gay movement has gotten too complacent, that the gay leaders are more concerned with just achieving "Tolerance". It seems to them, and rightly so to me as well, that what was once a movement has become an interest group.
These young people want to speak to you. Many of the contributions in this anthology is in the form of poetry. Since I am also a poet, who believes that poetry can convey so many powerful emotions in just a few lines, I find these works to be very visceral and full of passion. Most of the works presented in this anthology are real and not fiction. They are based in the lives of the people who created them. Buy this book for yourself and remember what you used to feel like when you were young. Buy it for someone young who is struggling with who they are. Buy it if you are a young queer who wonders if there is anyone else out there who feels the same way you do. There is no need to be silent anymore. There is no need to feel that you are alone anymore. There are others. Let these voices speak, to you.
